Catholic
University of Lublin
UNDER A FORMAL AGREEMENT
on scientific co-operation signed in October 2000, the Slavic Research
Group at the University of Ottawa is collaborating with the Catholic
University of Lublin (KUL -- Katolicki
Uniwersytet Lubelski) in the areas of Translation Studies, Canadian
Studies and Polish Philology. SRG member
Richard Sokoloski
is participating in several joint projects, including a series of Translation
Workshops, the first of which was held in Lublin in June 1999 (for
further details please see our Polish Happenings
page). The university was founded in 1918 to meet the needs of the
Catholic intelligentsia of Poland, and over its 83 years has been instrumental
in the educational and cultural development of Poland as a modern nation.

Jagiellonian
University in Cracow
THE SLAVIC
RESEARCH GROUP is involved in
two projects facilitated by a 'Memorandum of Understanding' with the
Jagiellonian
University in Cracow (Uniwersytet
JagielloÒski w Krakowie), in particular with its Polonian Institute
and Department of English (see details on our Polish
Happenings page). One of our collaborators, Professor Anna
ReczyÒska, who is also President of the Polish Association of Canadian
Studies, visited the University of Ottawa in January 2001 for research
on Polish immigration to Canada. The Jagiellonian University, one
of the oldest higher educational institutions in the world, was founded
as the Cracow Academy in 1364, and has just celebrated the 600th
anniversary of its 're-founding' by W„adys„aw Jagie„„o in 1400.

Polish
Academy of Arts and Sciences
A FORMAL AGREEMENT
between the Slavic Research Group and the Polish Academy of Arts and
Sciences (PAAS) signed in April 2000, has facilitated mutual
co-operation on a number of projects, including
Richard Sokoloski's
research on the unpublished literary works of Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski
(see his Letters to Vilna 1805, issued
by the SRG in 1999). We are especially grateful for the co-operation
of Academy President Kazimierz Kowalski, as well as for the assistance
provided by Karolina Grodziska, Director of the PAAS Library
and Janusz Pezda of the Czartoryski Library.

The Embassy of the Polish
Republic in Canada
The SLAVIC
RESEARCH GROUP is grateful for
the assistance it has received from the Polish
Embassy in Canada (Polska
Ambasada w Kanadzie) in co-sponsoring a number of events both at
the university and, on occasion, at the Embassy itself. These include
the Ambassador's Annual Book Awards to students in Polish Studies
at the University of Ottawa, a Polish Film Festival (September 1999)
and the Reymont Art Exhibit (November 2000) at the University,
and a generous gift of Polish books to the SRG by the Polish Ambassador
in early 2000 (see Polish Happenings
for details). A particular acknowledgement is due former Ambassador
Bogdan
GrzeloÒski and current Ambassador Pawe„ Dobrowolski and First
Secretary Jolanta Rejniak.
One might also mention
that the Embassy has a Polish
Consulate-General in MontrÈal.
