The SLAVIC RESEARCH GROUP AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA (SRG) was established in 1998 with a mandate to complement and enhance the work of individual departments at the University of Ottawa in activities such as undertaking and publishing research on Slavic cultural and literary themes, organising and publishing the proceedings of academic symposia, sponsoring lectures and other cultural events for both academic and local communities, initiating and renewing international contacts with like-minded institutions abroad, and translating documents between Slavic languages and Canada's official languages.  Our first six years have seen activity in nearly all these areas.

The SLAVIC RESEARCH GROUP AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA, a research centre of the university's Faculty of Arts, comprises faculty members from the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures (MLL), the History and Criminology Departments, the Slovak Chair and the Institute of Canadian Studies at the University of Ottawa, as well as external scholars and researchers from other universities and institutions in Canada and abroad (see our Members page for details).  The activities of the SRG, like those of all the research centres of the Faculty of Arts, are overseen by the Faculty's Associate Dean of Research, Antoni Lewkowicz.
