Young researcher of the year award

In 2005, the Young Researcher of the Year Award was established to recognize the outstanding achievements of researchers or artists who are in the early stages of their academic career.

Michel Bock, the 2008 award recipient, is one of these exceptional young researchers. Bock was granted his doctorate in 2002. Shortly after, in 2005, he received one of Canada's top awards for literature, the Governor General's Literary Award, for his book Quand la nation débordait les frontières (Les Cahiers du Québec, 2004). This work has earned Bock a number of other prestigious awards, including a medal from the Québec National Assembly, a Champlain literary award from the Conseil de la vie française en Amérique and a Michel Brunet prize from the Institut d'histoire de l'Amérique française.

In 2006, Michel Bock joined the University of Ottawa's Department of History as an associate professor. Bock holds the University of Ottawa Research Chair in Canadian Francophonie and is also the incumbent of the Société Charlevoix's third chair. As a member of the Centre for Research on French Canadian Culture, he contributes actively to this research community. Professor Bock is also a member of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Citizenship and Minorities (CIRCEM) at the Faculty of Social Sciences. In addition to being co-editor of the journal Mens: Revue d'histoire intellectuelle de l'Amérique française, he has contributed to many publications, both as a writer and as a reviewer.

In the area of secondary school education, Michel Bock has had a major influence on the Francophone community with his textbook on Franco-Ontarian history. He is involved in public education through his regular contributions to Ontario's French-language public television network, Télé-Française d'Ontario (TFO). As a consultant, Bock has participated in numerous television interviews.

An enthusiastic researcher, Michel Bock is known for his great ability to apply his knowledge to the areas of education and research.
