The SSHRC Insight Program’s results were announced recently and the Faculty of Arts has something to be proud of! Three professors from the Department of Linguistic have received a financing totalling near $ 800 000.
Professor Marc Brunelle received a grant of $ 142 440 for his project entitled: Prosodic Typology: Insights from Vietnamese and Eastern Cham; Professor Shana Poplack obtained a grant of over $ 400 000$ for her project: Language Contact and Charge in Canada’s Official Languages and Marie-Hélène Côté was awarded a grant of $ 207 200 to develop her project: Variation géographique dans le système phonique du français laurentien.

- Professor Lorraine Gilbert from the Visual Department participate in the National Gallery of Arts’ new exhibition Flora and Fauna: 400 Years of Artists Inspired by Nature. Until September 9th 2012, her large format digital photographs, created through skilful montages of hundreds of images will be in display in the Beaux-Arts Court.

- Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development awards uOttawa professors $161,000 to continue studying Metis nation's complex socio-economic structures.
- uOttawa professor Luke Copland has discovered that the surface area of Ellesmere Island’s ice shelves has shrunk by almost half in the past six years.
- Lucie Joubert, Professor in the Department of French was awarded the 2011 Ottawa Book Award for her essay " L’envers du landau ".
