Greg Fisher's research focuses on the complex relationships between empires and the groups or peoples on their peripheries in Late Antiquity, particularly in the Near East. His D.Phil. thesis work centered around the relationship between the two main Arab clients of the Roman and Sasanian Iranian empires between 400-650, known as the Jafnids and the Nasrids, with particular emphasis on the religious, cultural, and political consequences of imperial alliance for these two groups. He is currently reworking his D.Phil. thesis for publication under the title 'Between Empires. Arabs, Romans and Sasanians in Late Antiquity.' He has worked on a number of archaeological projects, including expeditions to Cyprus and Jordan, and has written about Roman ruins in Syria for Lonely Planet.
